The first point to consider is where you start your journey: the university where you spend your first semester will also be the one where you finish your studies with the Master thesis, and it will be the institution granting your degree. The food system can be analyzed from different perspectives:
  • the focus can be on primary production, and technologies of food processing. This focus is emphasized in the tracks of the following universities:
    • University of Torino (spring/summer): Functional food compounds from natural sources
    • University of Torino (fall/winter): Food safety of the whole value chain
    • University of Hohenheim: AgriFood Science and Engineering
  • It can be on the consumer, and how nutrition can affect his or her health
    • University of Reading (spring/summer): Public Health Nutrition and the Consumer
    • University of Reading (fall/winter): Personalised Nutrition and the Consumer
    • Universidad Autonoma de Madrid: Functional Foods and Precision Nutrition
    • Queen's University of Belfast: Food integrity of the supply chains. Applied and advanced systems for food control
  • And it can be on the business-related aspects of the food system, such as marketing, logistics and distribution.
